Golf star Nick Faldo to take part in Hong Kong Open
English golf star Nick Faldo will be taking part in his first European Tour contest in over a year when he plays at the Hong Kong Open on Thursday.
51-year-old Faldo came in for a lot of serious criticism following his captaincy of Europe at the Ryder Cup in which they lost for the first time in nine years in September this year.

Scottish golfer Colin Montgomerie still aims for a major title
Scottish veteran golfer Colin Montgomerie says he wants to carry on playing for at least another seven years in the hopes of winning a first major title.
45-year-old Montgomerie has been getting some disappointing results though of late, and he hasn't got himself inside the top 20 in his last 10 events. Montgomerie has dropped down to 118th in the world golf rankings.

Albert Pujols and Dustin Pedroia named as MLB's most valuable
Baseball stars Albert Pujols and Dustin Pedroia have been chosen by the votes of the Baseball Writers' Association of America as Major League Baseball's Most Valuable Players of the year.
28-year-old Pujols of the St Louis Cardinals claimed the National League (NL) award for the second time, defeating Philadelphia's World Series winner Ryan Howard.

Lance Armstrong to race against Carlos Sastre in Italy
Seven times Tour de France winner Lance Armstrong and Carlos Sastre will be competing against each other at the Giro d'Italia in 2009.
Armstrong still cannot say if he will take part in the Tour de France, but he has confirmed his place in the race in Italy where he will be up against Sastre, who previously had not been sure if he was going to enter it or not.

Swiss tennis star Roger Federer doesn't care about being number two
Swiss tennis star Roger Federer, who is currently world number two, says he isn't worried about the prospect of Serbian Novak Djokovic beating him in the world rankings.
Although Federer is still in second place Djokovic got closer by a gap of just 10 points with his recent win at the Masters Cup.

Liverpool Football Club in row over Liver Bird emblem
Liverpool Football Club's owners are seeking to register the Liver Bird as their trademark, and have applied to the UK Intellectual Property Office to register the image for £450.
The club is hoping that the move will cut down on the counterfeit Liverpool merchandise carrying the famous Liver Bird emblem, however, Liverpool City Council said the football club had "no right" to claim ownership of the bird.

British boxer Ricky Hatton to next face Paulie Malignaggi
British boxer Ricky Hatton has promised to put on "a barnstorming fight" in his light-welterweight clash against American fighter Paulie Malignaggi, which is due to take place in Las Vegas on Saturday.
Hatton will be making a return to the MGM Grand Arena where he was defeated by Floyd Mayweather last December and lost his unbeaten record when this happened.

Former golf star Seve Ballesteros is out of intensive care
Former Spanish golf star Seve Ballesteros has been allowed to leave the intensive care unit where he has been a patient since 14 October recovering from an operation on a brain tumour.
51-year-old Ballesteros was originally taken into the La Paz Hospital after he briefly lost consciousness at Madrid's international airport on 6 October.

Brazilian footballer Ronaldo may decide to retire
Former Brazil football star Ronaldo, who has been recovering from a serious knee injury, says he is undecided about his future and it is possible he will retire.
32-year-old Ronaldo had parted company with AC Milan when his contract ran out on 30 June.
