World Cup ski champ Aksel Lund Svindal injured

svindal The current World Cup ski champion Aksel Lund Svindal looks likely to be away from sport for a long while after a very bad crash whilst downhill training in America.

Aksel Lund Svindal, 24, who comes from Norway, broke his nose, his cheekbone and suffered a 13cm tear to his groin and rear in the accident that happened at Beaver Creek. Team doctor Ola Ronsen is reported to have said: "He's out for months not weeks."

Aksel Lund Svindal had already recorded two World Cup victories this season, having won the Soelden giant slalom and a super-G in Canada and was leading the overall standings.

However, the accident happened when Aksel Lund Svindal lost his balance after coming out of the spectacular "Golden Eagle" jump, which is near the end of the course.

Ola Ronsen explained further why Aksel Lund Svindal wouldn't be skiing for a while and added: "The cut is deep and is of concern in that it could get infected or open up if he puts too much pressure on it."
