Slovenian skier Andrej Jerman wins World Cup downhill
Slovenian skier Andrej Jerman won the World Cup downhill in Garmisch, Germany and became the first person from his country to achieve this. Andrej Jerman has progressed to this top score after doing really well last year when he finished at 28th in downhill and in the super-G as well.
Andrej Jerman, 28, had represented Slovenia in the 2006 Winter Olympics in Turin, Italy.
In his latest victory, Andrej Jerman clocked one minute 56.82 seconds to go down the Kandahar course, although the snow had had to be brought there from Austria.
Andrej Jerman, who had never been on a World Cup podium before, managed to defeat Austrian skier Hans Grugger by 0.22 seconds.
A proud and delighted Andrej Jerman said: "Slovenia has had some slalom and giant slalom winners in the past but I never thought I would win a downhill."
And Andrej Jerman added: "To win in front of all these downhill aces is amazing. It was so warm and it was difficult to ski in such warm weather."
