Italian Giorgio Rocca wins five times at World Cup slalom
Italy's Giorgio Rocca won five times out of five in the World Cup slalom with his victory in Wengen.
Giorgio Rocca was leading with just Benjamin Raich to race and the Austrian straddled the third gate to hand Rocca the win.
Kalle Palander, from Finland, finished second in Switzerland and last-year's winner Alois Vogl of Germany was third.
Briton Alain Baxter was aiming to break into the top 30 to secure a
second run but the Scot finished 39th from a start bib of 43.
Giorgio Rocca, who was fourth after the first run, finished in
an aggregate time of 1:42.28, 0.20 seconds ahead of Kalle Palander with
Alois Vogl recording 1:42.79.
A triumphant Giorgio Rocca said: "To win here in Wengen was already a
dream but to win five in succession is just unbelievable especially as
it took place in front of all my family."
