Austrian skiing star Renate Goetschl wins World Cup super-G
Austrian skiing star Renate Goetschl won her second consecutive women's World Cup super-G race at Reiteralm in Austria on Saturday when she clocked a time of one minute 17.91 seconds.
Renate Goetschl, 31, also won the season-opening race in Lake Louise in Canada earlier this month.
Team-mate Nicole Hosp was in second place with Swiss skier Martina Schild in third, the only non-Austrian in the top eight winners.
British skier Chemmy Alcott, who was seventh in Friday's super combined event, came in 20th in a time of 1:20.06 and American Lindsey Kildow, who was second in Lake Louise but who has been suffering from a stomach problem this week, went off course.
"I didn't expect to be so good in super-G this season," said Renate Goetschl, who won only one race last season.
"I was surprised when I won in Lake Louise and now again here.
"My target at the start of the season was to win my fifth World Cup downhill title but now I'm doing so well in super-G, I'd rather not talk about the downhill," Renate Goetschl added.
