Austrian legendary skier Franz Klammer for Salzburg Olympics bid
Austrian ski legend Franz Klammer has been chosen as the new CEO and chairman to lead Salzburg's bid to host the 2014 Winter Olympics. Franz Klammer will be taking over from Fedor Radmann who has stepped down.
Franz Klammer had retired himself from active sport at the age of 30, having spent 12 seasons on the World Cup circuit (1972-84) after having done a great deal to promote the popularity of alpine ski racing.
Fedor Radmann, 62, has retired due to illness.
Born in Mooswald, Carinthia, Austria in a farming family, Franz Klammer was brought up with skiing, which he turned to his advantage making his World Cup debut at age 19.
Franz Klammer was nicknamed Kaiser and also as the "Klammer Express," and he won the men's downhill gold at the 1976 Games in Innsbruck, the last time the Olympics were in Austria.
Austria Olympic Committee president Leo Wallner said the Salzburg panel is hoping to make special use of Franz Klammer in its international presentations.
