American skiing star Bode Miller defends downhill title
American skiing star Bode Miller will be defending his downhill title at this week's World Ski Championships in Sweden.
Bode Miller, 29, who was named the fastest skier in the world when he won the gold medal in the World Championship downhill in 2005, had considered pulling out of the event due to worries over problems with a knee injury coming back, an injury Bode Miller had suffered on the same Are course last season.
"I've been conferring with the coaches and I'll be racing in all the events here," Bode Miller said.
"So hopefully I'll come out with a little more success than I've had in the last major championships."
Bode Miller said he decided to race the downhill after talking with his coaches, although he added he could still change his mind if his knee begins to hurt in training sessions for it.
"If the jumps are big or if my knee hurts or if anything feels not right, then obviously I'll pull out. But now the intent is to start every race," Bode Miller explained.
