American skier Lindsey Vonn wins World Cup title
US skier Lindsey Vonn neé Kildow claimed her first overall World Cup title on Friday when she went into the lead after the season's final slalom in Bormio.
Lindsey Vonn, 23, who is an elite member of the U.S. Ski Team's alpine skiing program, has joined fellow American skier Bode Miller as overall champion, and it is the first time the US has won both the men's and women's titles since 1983.
Last year Lindsey Vonn finished third in the women's World Cup disciplines of downhill and Super G but now she has bettered her performance and made it to the top.
Lindsey Vonn said proudly: "It's been an amazing season."
Lindsey Vonn had already won the downhill title and her overall victory is the first by an American woman skier since Tamara McKinney in 1983.
Lindsey Vonn had fallen behind in 25th place after the first run, but she soon battled her way back with the fastest second run to finish 11th on the day.
