Great Britain's men curlers go for Olympic silver
Great Britain's men's curling team face group winners Finland in the
Olympic semi-finals in Pinerolo on Wednesday and if they win they will
get a silver medal at least.
The British men curlers are led by skip David Murdoch and are hoping to
follow in the footsteps of the Great Britain women's curling team who
won gold in 2002.
David Murdoch knows expectations are high ahead of the semi-final at
1800 GMT and he said of the forthcoming game: "It is the biggest game
of our lives. We are two games away from being Olympic champions. It is
absolutely, unbelievably huge."
David Murdoch, 27, who started curling aged six, will clinch a Friday play-off for gold if his side can beat Finland.
And even though Rhona Martin's reign as Olympic champion finished on
Monday night, David Murdoch will be hoping for the same kind of
performance she managed with the 'stone of destiny' to clinch a win in
Salt Lake in 2002.
David Murdoch knows his team which also includes fellow Scottish
curlers Ewan MacDonald, Euan Byers, Warwick Smith and Craig Watson,
will not get any better chances to reach the Olympic finals.
Vice-skip Ewan MacDonald's wife Fiona won gold as part of Rhona
Martin's team at Salt Lake, and will be watching the event at home in
Inverness.
