Welsh boxer Joe Calzaghe's fight with Roy Jones Jr date is set
Welsh boxer Joe Calzaghe's delayed fight against his US opponent Roy Jones Jr has been announced as taking place on 8 November.
36-year-old Calzaghe, who has never been defeated, was forced to withdraw from their bout set for 20 September after he hurt his right hand whilst in a practice session.

Tennis star Lindsay Davenport withdraws from singles
Tennis star Lindsay Davenport is the latest in a growing list of players who have pulled out from the singles at the Olympics, in her case due to injury.
32-year-old Davenport, who claimed Olympic gold in 1996, has been suffering from a knee problem since Wimbledon, however she is thought to be staying on at the event for the doubles matches.

Manchester United's Wayne Rooney may recover in time
Manchester United football star Wayne Rooney could hopefully recover in time for the beginning of his team's Premier League campaign on 17 August. He has been suffering from a virus infection.
22-year-old Rooney caught the disease whilst on Manchester United's tour of Nigeria but he went back to training on Friday.

Tennis star Andy Murray faces Lu Yen-Hsun at Olympics
Scottish tennis star Andy Murray will face Lu Yen-Hsun of Taipei in the first round at the Olympic Games, but he knows it is not going to be easy to actually win a medal in Beijing.
In the quarter-finals, Murray will probably play against Rafael Nadal, who is already set to become world number one, and then Novak Djokovic is a likely semi-final opponent.

Brett Favre to play for New York Jets not Green Bay Packers
Brett Favre is back out of retirement but he will not be playing for Green Bay Packers again. The team have confirmed they are going to trade him to the New York Jets.
38-year-old American football star Favre had said he was reversing his decision to retire, which gave the Green Bay Packers a problem because they already had Aaron Rodgers set to start at quarterback, which was his normal position.

Basketball star Yao Ming to carry flag in Beijing
NBA basketball player Yao Ming has been given the honour of being the carrier of the Chinese flag at the opening ceremony of the Olympic Games in Beijing on Friday.
Yao, who is 7ft 6in (2.26 metre) in height, making him the tallest basketball player in the NBA, plays as a centre for the Houston Rockets. He is one of the most famous Chinese sportsmen in the world and naturally a very popular celebrity for his country.
