Volvo Ocean Race boats still under examination
Two yachts damaged less than 24 hours after the start of the Volvo
Ocean Race on Saturday were under examination in Portuguese ports on
Tuesday, and experts are yet to decide whether to repair on site or
transport the vessels to bigger ports.
Movistar and Pirates of the Caribbean have suspended racing in the first leg, which ends in Cape Town, South Africa.
The teams can return to the seven-month, around-the-world race from Portugal and still complete the course.
Pirates of the Caribbean, which suffered leakage around the keel of
their boat Black Pearl, docked on Monday in Cascais, 18 miles west of
Lisbon.
Spanish entry Movistar was in Portimao on the southern Portuguese coast
with a broken hydraulic ram on the keel system and the Australian boat
Premier Challenge, which had its boom damaged, was repaired in Porto
Santo in the Madeira Islands early on Tuesday morning.
