Team New Zealand sailors beat Desafio Español
The sailors in Team New Zealand defeated their opponents in Desafio Español to qualify for the Louis Vuitton Cup final.
The New Zealanders easily won the seventh race against their Spanish hosts to claim a 5-2 lead in their best of nine semi-final off the coast of Valencia.
Due to very high winds the seventh race had to be postponed on Tuesday, and the weather was still very bad when racing started again on Wednesday.
With waves more than a metre high flooding their yacht at one point Desafio Español's crew had to empty water off their boat using plastic buckets.
Team New Zealand crossed the start line two lengths clear of their Spanish rivals in Desafio Español.
Winning by one minute and 18 seconds, Team New Zealand now face Luna Rossa for the right to challenge for the America's Cup.
