Sir Robin Knox-Johnston finishes Velux 5 Oceans Yacht Race
Veteran sailing legend Sir Robin Knox-Johnston has completed the Velux 5 Oceans Yacht Race, all 30,000 miles of it, and it was 38 years after he last managed to achieve this impressive feat.
Sir Robin Knox-Johnston, 68, ended the round-the-world Velux 5 Oceans Yacht Race on Friday morning.
Sir Robin Knox-Johnston, who hails from Ipplepen near Newton Abbot, Devon, was the oldest sailor in the race.
Sir Robin Knox-Johnston's yacht SAGA Insurance was third to cross the finishing line off Bilbao in Spain in the final leg of the race and within seconds of Sir Robin Knox-Johnston completing the race, his two brothers came alongside and scrambled onboard his boat.
It is looking likely Sir Robin Knox-Johnston will be in fourth overall position.
Commenting on his age in relation to the other sailors, Sir Robin Knox-Johnston had written in his log: "I don't think age has played any part in the event. The others are a bit more elastic than I, but that's about it."
