Sarah Ayton, Sarah Webb and Pippa Wilson hold yngling title
British women sailors Sarah Ayton, Sarah Webb and Pippa Wilson have successfully held on to their Yngling World Championship title in Miami and are now all set for the Beijing Olympic Games.
The trio of sailors won gold after they took an unshakeable lead as they entered the final day in Biscayne Bay.
Pippa Wilson is reported to have said: "In the past we've been in the same position, but have made a few mistakes. This time, our experience helped pull us through."
Shirley Robertson, who had worked with Sarah Ayton, Sarah Webb and Pippa Wilson in the past and was hoping to beat them this time, along with her current crew of Annie Lush and Lucy Macgregor, were 10th as they went into the final day.
But Sarah Ayton, Sarah Webb and Pippa Wilson now can rejoice in the fact that, even with the double points-scoring medal race still to go, they have the world title.
"We just sailed really consistently throughout the week. We had some pretty tricky conditions and some big breezes and so our teamwork has really shone through," Pippa Wilson also said.
