Sailor Shirley Robertson omitted from UK Olympics team
Sailor Shirley Robertson has been omitted from the UK sailing team for the Beijing Olympics, and she is very disappointed seeing as she was hoping to win a third straight gold medal at the games.
The selection for the Yngling team has gone instead to Sarah Ayton along with Sarah Webb and Pippa Wilson.
A bitterly disappointed Shirley Robertson, 39, who had previously won gold with Sarah Ayton and Sarah Webb in Athens in 2004, said: "I felt the team got cut off in its prime."
Shirley Robertson added: "We had a lot more to give and we didn't get the respect we had earned."
But it wasn't with her past fellow sailors that Shirley Robertson felt aggrieved and she explained: "I wish them well. The only disappointment would be if they don't bring the gold medal back."
