New British America's Cup sailing team to be announced
A new British America's Cup sailing team will be announced in London on Thursday
Great Britain last entered the contest in 2002 when GBR Challenge lost in the quarter-finals in Auckland and the syndicate then packed up and left Britain with no entry for this year's America's Cup in Spain.
The date and venue of the next competition will be given by the new champions but is unlikely before 2009.
Several British sailors will be sailing for other syndicates in 2007, including double Olympic gold medallist Ben Ainslie (Team New Zealand) and fellow Olympic champion Iain Percy (Italy's +39 team).
And double Olympic silver medallist Ian Walker, the captain of GBR Challenge in 2002, is also taking part in the +39 Challenge.
The America's Cup is a head-to-head match-racing competitive sailing event featuring a challenger series to decide on the team that will contest the trophy proper with the holders.
