British sailing teams Aviva and Ecover form alliance

aviva British sailing teams Aviva and Ecover have formed an alliance and plan on developing and testing their boats together to increase their chances in the 2008 Vendee Globe, which has, to date, been dominated by the French, who have won all five contests.

Aviva's Dee Caffari and Ecover's Mike Golding think their partnership in this alliance could put them in the lead over their sailing opponents in the solo non-stop round-the-world race.

Mike Golding said: This is a new departure for us and one that I believe will reap longer-term rewards."

And Dee Caffari, who hopes to become the first woman to sail around the world in both directions, added: "It will give both our campaigns an added dimension that could give us an advantage over our rivals."

Dee Caffari and Mike Golding first met when Mike Golding gave Dee Caffari her first job in professional sailing back in 1999.
