UK diver Tony Ally out of World Diving Championships
British diver Tony Ally is reported to have withdrawn from the Great Britain squad for the World Diving Championships after injuring the ligament in his left knee.
Tony Ally, 33, who hails from the City of Sheffield sustained the problem whilst in charge of a demonstration for a young divers group.
Tony Ally, who was once crowned European champion when he won gold at Seville, may now require an operation and could be away from the action for up to six months it has been estimated.
This comes as a severe blow to a diver whom it was reported in the Telegraph to have once said: "diving is one of those sports where you use everything: movement and speed, with difficult shapes. You have to be super-flexible, with very high muscle tone."
And now Tony Ally has said: "I'm gutted to miss out on Melbourne but I'm committed to making sure I'm back for the end of the season to give myself a shot at Beijing."
To replace Tony Ally 19-year-old Ben Swain from City of Sheffield has been enlisted and he will be joining Nick Robinson-Baker in the 3m synchro event, with Olympic and world medallists Leon Taylor and Peter Waterfield leading the British team.
