English divers Tandi Indergaard and Hayley Sage win bronze at Commonwealth Games
English divers Tandi Indergaard and Hayley Sage won the first diving
medal for their country after taking bronze in the synchronised
three-metre springboard at the Commonwealth Games.
Tandi Indergaard and Hayley Sage came back well after a poor start and
a great finish put them in the running for the silver but Canada's
Melanie Rinaldi and Rebecca Barras managed to beat them to claim second
place by less than three points.
Tandi Indergaard, 28, and Hayley Sage, 19, ended up on 270.63 points,
25.44 behind winners Bree Cole and Charleen Stratton of Australia.
"It hasn't sunk in yet," said Tandi Indergaard, who represented South
Africa in the 1998 Games. "I'm really excited because it's a new team.
"Rounds two and three were a bit wobbly but we pulled it back. We had to fight for that medal.
"We made a mistake on our second dive which hurt our score but we came back strongly," Tandi Indergaard added.
Hayley Sage is one of the team's most recently joined members and she
was thrilled to have claimed her first senior international medal.
