Divers Pete Waterfield and Leon Taylor in squad for Commonwealth Games
Olympic medallists Pete Waterfield and Leon Taylor have been selected
for England's diving squad for the 2006 Commonwealth Games.
Pete Waterfield goes against Leon Taylor as he aims to defend his 10m
platform title before the Athens silver medallists pair up in the
synchronised event.
Leon Taylor was chosen despite missing the trials with a shoulder injury and is set to be well enough for the March Games.
Olympians Tony Ally and Mark Shipman are also in the squad which at 17 is twice the size of that picked in 2002.
Tony Ally took two silvers at the last Games in Manchester in both the 1m and 3m springboard events.
Pete Waterfield and Leon Taylor, whose silver in the synchronised 10m
platform was Britain's first medal at the Athens Olympics, aim to
repeat their success in Melbourne as the event has been added to the
Commonwealth schedule for the first time.
Tandi Indergaard, who reached the world three-metre final last summer, leads the women's team.
'We are extremely proud to be taking such a strong contingent of divers
to Melbourne," said England diving manager Martyn Brown.
"The team numbers reflect our strength in depth as a nation and we will be looking to put up a good show."
