Diver Leon Taylor is out of Melbourne world championships
Sheffield diver Leon Taylor has had to pull out of the individual diving competition at the swimming world championships in Melbourne on Saturday due to injury.
Gareth Jones will be replacing him in the individual 10m competition.
Leon Taylor has injured his back although he is hoping to have recovered well enough in time to join Pete Waterfield in the 10-metre platform synchronised event.
However, even Pete Waterfield, who won Olympic silver with Leon Taylor in 2004, has problems going against him at present because he has an infection in the ear.
"I'm gutted because I'd recovered from the shoulder problem and dived well in December to qualify for the Worlds," Leon Taylor said sadly.
"Now the only chance I have of competing is on the final day in the synchro event.
"Melbourne really hasn't been kind to me as a competition venue because last year I was forced to pull out of the Commonwealth Games because of my shoulder," Leon Taylor also said.
