British diver Peter Waterfield forced to pull out of Diving World Cup in China British diver Peter Waterfield has been forced withdraw from this month's Diving World Cup in China because he tore a thumb ligament in training.
Olympic, World and Commonwealth medallist Peter Waterfield has been advised to stop diving for up to a month so the ligament can heal.
"It's a huge disappointment for me," said Peter Waterfield, "but I can't risk doing any more damage.
"If I damage it further it could put me out for up to three months," Peter Waterfield added.
Peter Waterfield, who took 10m platform individual silver at this year's Commonwealth Games, is now concentrating on the 2008 Olympics.
"There are some massive opportunities ahead of me," Peter Waterfield added.
"I'm now looking to the World Championships in Melbourne early next year, where we will be aiming to qualify Britain for the 2008 Olympics. That's my main goal," Peter Waterfield explained.
