Work starts on London's 2012 Olympic venues
The Olympic Delivery Authority (ODA) the organisation that is responsible for making London's 2012 Olympic promises a reality begins work this week.
The ODA is charged with making sure pledges like the £250m Olympic stadium in Stratford, east London, are properly delivered, however, nothing much can be done until the site's 50 electric pylons are taken away.
Four tunnelling machines have commenced work in Stratford to take the power cables underground, and it is estimated it will take until 2008.
The ODA has six years to transform Stratford into a 500-acre site fit to host the Olympics and Paralympics. There have been doubts about whether it can all be delivered on time, especially because of the problems that the £757m Wembley Stadium has had.
Asked how he could be certain the 2012 preparations went more smoothly, ODA boss David Higgins said the most important thing was the planning and he denied the promises made in London's Olympic bid would be watered down.
The ODA will review the plans for the Games, looking into things like ground conditions, but also making sure the legacy is for a long-lasting regeneration in east London.
