US sprinter Tyson Gay should be fit for Beijing
US sprinting champion Tyson Gay should be fit enough to compete in the 100m at the Beijing Olympics in August it has been reported.
25-year-old Gay didn't manage to qualify for the 200m, and fell on the track early in his quarter-final at the American trials.
It looked as if he was grabbing at his left hamstring, however, since then the injury has been diagnosed as a light muscle strain, meaning he will probably need at least a fortnight away from the action.
But Tyson Gay could make his comeback for the London Grand Prix on 25 July, where his opponent would be Jamaican Asafa Powell.
Gay claimed gold in the 100m and 200m in Japan last year, however, the American policy of only selecting the three fastest athletes in the trials means he will miss out on the 200m squad this time.
But Tyson Gay has already qualified for the 100m, and recently ran winning the US trials in 9.68 seconds, which was the fastest ever recorded over 100m.
