US Olympic bosses take action against American athletes
US Olympic chiefs have sworn to take action after there have been
several incidents involving American athletes at the Winter Games in
Turin that have been a source of embarrassment.
Freestyle skier Jeret Peterson was involved in a fight and was
dismissed early and speed skaters Shani Davis and Chad Hedrick were
feuding in public over Davis's refusal to take part in the team
pursuit.
"The team has a taken a hit," explained Jim Scherr, chief executive officer of the US Olympic Committee (USOC).
"It's unfortunate that a few coloured the rest of the delegation."
And he went on: "We will be making some significant adjustments going into Beijing and Vancouver."
Jim Scherr said the USOC would ensure athletes know they must get
themselves ready physically for the Games and understand they are
representing not only themselves but also are appearing on behalf of
their countries.
"Coming out of these Games we will do a better job as an Olympic
Committee to monitor those situations and make sure that both of those
edicts are followed to a higher degree," Jim Scherr said.
The behaviour of controversial skier Bode Miller has also come under
scrutiny again after he was twice seen out late indulging in a social
life, once on the night right before the prestige downhill race.
