Tennis stars Serena and Venus Williams both beaten
Tennis playing sisters Serena and Venus Williams have both seen their chance if claiming Olympic gold in the women's singles vanish when they were defeated in the quarter-finals.
Chinese star Li Na gave the home crowd much to be excited about when she beat seventh seed Venus with a 7-5 7-5 score, and at the same event Russian player Elena Dementieva defeated her sister Serena with a 3-6 6-4 6-3 victory.
Earlier on in the game, Serena Williams seemed as if she was going to be the winner when she took control all through the first set, but Dementieva very soon battled her way back and took charge of the match.
Dementieva said afterwards: "I'm very excited for the moment. I'm very excited about my semi-finals here and I don't want to think about a medal."
Venus Williams was having trouble too and it looked as if her opponent Li was spurred on to victory by the support of her home crowd.
