Tennis star Lindsay Davenport withdraws from singles
Tennis star Lindsay Davenport is the latest in a growing list of players who have pulled out from the singles at the Olympics, in her case due to injury.
32-year-old Davenport, who claimed Olympic gold in 1996, has been suffering from a knee problem since Wimbledon, however she is thought to be staying on at the event for the doubles matches.
Croatian tennis players Ivo Karlovic and Mario Ancic also withdrew earlier this week because they were ill, and Maria Sharapova, Mary Pierce and Amelie Mauresmo had already pulled out from the Beijing Olympic Games last month.
Lindsay Davenport, who was due to play against Alicia Molik in the first round, was injured whilst playing at Eastbourne in July, and she also had to withdraw from Wimbledon after she had just beaten Czech player Renata Voracova in the first round.
It hasn't been announced as yet who will replace Davenport but the decision is expected very soon.
