Serena Williams and Venus Williams in Olympics tennis
American tennis-playing sisters Serena and Venus Williams carried on competing for Olympic gold with second-round wins in the women's singles tournament at the Beijing Games.
Fourth seeded Serena Williams easily defeated Australian star Samantha Stosur with a 6-3 6-0 score, while her sister, who was seventh seed also beat her opponent Iveta Benesova, with an impressive 6-1 6-4 victory.
Serena Williams said afterwards: "It was clean. My way of improving on it is to keep it up."
Serena had dominated her game against Stosur all through and only needed 44 minutes to win.
Venus Williams had problems with her second serve, when she hit six double-faults, but she had no break points and lost just two of 24 points on her first serve.
Serena and Venus Williams are also playing together in the doubles, and they could meet again in the singles final.
Elsewhere at the event, 10th seed Daniela Hantuchova of Slovakia was beaten 6-1 6-3 by Denmark's Caroline Wozniacki, while eighth seed Agnieszka Radwanska of Poland lost 6-3 7-6 (8-6) to Francesca Schiavone from Italy.
