Olympic torch ceremony to be held in Greece
The Olympic torch-lighting ceremony is going to be held in Greece at ancient Olympia and it will then be carried from there to Beijing for the Olympic Games.
The lighting ceremony, which takes place beside the Temple of Hera, will be televised and shown around the world and large numbers of police will be on guard to prevent trouble by campaigners, who have said they will be protesting the violence in Tibet.
The head of the International Olympic Committee Jacques Rogge has maintained his support for the decision to stage the Olympic Games in China and rejected the idea of a boycott saying: "The major political leaders don't want a boycott."
The Olympic torch will travel through 20 countries before the Beijing Games begin on 8 August.
Thousands of people are expected to gather for the torch-lighting ceremony, and Liu Qi, head of the Beijing Olympic organising committee, as well as the president and prime minister of Greece will be in attendance.
