Lord Coe confirms awards for Olympics preparation in the UK
Lord Sebastian Coe who is the London 2012 chairman, has announced that there will be a £25,000 award on offer to any country that gets ready for the Olympic Games by using the training facilities in the UK.
There are 600 sporting facilities, which could be used to host foreign visiting teams and form training camps.
The award Lord Coe was speaking of had been taken out of the 2012 tender document in April 2005 but he explained he had always supported the idea and he explained: "We brought it back into play as soon as we won. I was always clear this would be a commitment."
London 2012 had removed the award following an investigation by the International Olympic Committee's ethics commission but now it has been brought back and the £25,000 award will be funded by the London Organising Committee with money they have put away from a privately-raised budget.
