London Olympics organisers extend sponsorship range
London Olympics organisers have decided to extend the categories under which a firm can qualify to be a sponsor for the forthcoming games.
The organising committee Locog currently has eight top sponsor categories, after creating one for clothing and homeware to be added to the categories they already have, which are sportswear, airline, automotive, banking, telecoms, utilities, and oil and gas.
The organisers are hoping that £2bn can be raised towards putting on the 2012 Olympic Games, and EDF and Lloyds TSB have already signed as sponsors in the utilities and banking and insurance sectors respectively.
Companies wishing to be sposors will pay at least £40m and an average of £50m to have their names associated with the 2012 Olympic Games.
Paul Deighton, chief executive of the London 2012 organising committee, is reported to have said: "The addition of a new category demonstrates that there is a huge appetite from commercial companies to be part of 2012."
