London 2012 officials reveal Olympic Stadium design
London 2012 Olympics officials have revealed the design for their new 80,000-seater Olympic Stadium, which will cost £496m.
Olympics Minister Tessa Jowell is reported to have said: "No-one can say we've compromised on design, on sustainability or on the legacy potential."
The Olympic Delivery Authority (ODA) has already said that work on the stadium will start three months ahead of schedule in April next year.
The Olympic Stadium was originally thought to cost £280m but the total for it has been revised since then to the new figure.
Lord Sebastian Coe, who is chairman of the London Organising Committee, has said that the new Olympic Stadium would be a "stadium for a new era".
Lord Coe added: "It's a stadium that delivers on everything we said we would deliver on; a stadium with track and field as its primary legacy; a stadium that will be reduced from 80,000 seats in Olympic mode to a 25,000-seater community base."
The construction firm of Sir Robert McAlpine Ltd in a partnership along with architects HoK Sport and consulting engineers Buro Happold is leading the building work for the Olympic Stadium.
