Jacques Rogge happy with 2012 Olympic stadium
Jacques Rogge, who is the president of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) has said he is happy with the plans for London's 2012 Olympic stadium.
Jacques Rogge thought that the idea of reducing the capacity of the £496m stadium from 80,000 to 25,000 seats after the Olympic Games made a lot of financial sense too.
Jacques Rogge is reported to have commented: "It's an interesting model, it reminds me of Atlanta (1996) which was a very big stadium,
"That was reduced after the Games for a baseball stadium for about 20,000 and that's an intelligent model."
Jacques Rogge feels sure that making the venue smaller once the Olympic Games have ended will help make sure the place lasts a long time and he explained: "You don't want to build white elephants that are not sustainable after the Games."
Jacques Rogge has no problem about the venue going to a football club after the Olympics instead of just being kept for exclusive athletics events.
"Every stadium that combines a football pitch with an athletics track finds you have far more football than athletics," Jacques Rogge concluded.
