International Olympic Committee moves swimming finals
The International Olympic Committee (IOC) are moving the swimming finals and much of the gymnastics events at the 2008 Beijing Olympics to the morning as a partial concession to American network NBC, who wanted events moved to fit in with its audience.
However, athletics finals will be held in the evening, with rowing and diving put on in the afternoon for British and Australian television respectively.
The IOC decision ends months of talks between the committee and broadcasters but the proposed move for the swimming finals caused uproar when it had been leaked in Australia earlier this year.
High-profile Australian swimmers led a campaign to keep evening finals at Beijing, and the Australian Olympic Committee (AOC) officially opposed the switch to morning finals because it was a problem for athletes.
But IOC spokeswoman Giselle Davies said: "It's neither a new process nor a new issue. In every Games we have to look at the needs of different stakeholders."
