IOC president Jacques Rogge wants a teenage Olympic Games
Eighth president of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) Jacques Rogge says he wants to create an Olympic Games for teenagers, and he plans for it to start in 2010.
Jacques Rogge told French sports daily newspaper L'Equipe that his proposed Youth Olympics for teenagers would give athletes aged 14 to 18 a chance to compete.
"It's a project I've had in the works since my arrival in the IOC presidency in 2001," Jacques Rogge explained and he added that claimed most international sports federations approached over his idea have not had any problems with it.
The IOC is making a feasibility study into the proposal and this will be up for discussion at the IOC executive board meeting in Beijing on 25-27 April.
Jacques Rogge explained that about 3,500 athletes would participate in mainly the same sports as those that are already played and competed in in the regular Olympic Games and that the Youth Olympics make use of existing sports venues.
