Hong Kong stages trial 2008 Olypmpics event
Hong Kong will be putting on a trial event next year as it gets ready to host the 2008 Olympics' equestrian disciplines.
The Hong Kong Special Administrative Region 10th Anniversary Invitation Cup will be taking place from 10-13 August and promoter Lam Woon-kwong said: "The main point is for the horses to have the chance to try out the weather."
Horse riders have expressed worries about the effects of the high temperatures and humidity expected in Hong Kong during the Olympic Games and the equestrian events were moved from Beijing to Hong Kong due to concerns about equine diseases on the mainland.
Hong Kong has had plenty of experience in staging horse racing, but doesn't have the same level of knowledge in equestrian events.
Work has begun on two new venues for the jumping, dressage and all-around event competitions.
