Gymnast used in 2012 Olympics marketing forced to quit

benbrown Ben Brown the gymnast used in the London's 2012 Olympics marketing campaign has been forced to quit gymnastics due to lack of funding.

Ben Brown was pictured vaulting the "Gherkin Tower" in the campaign but he is now employed full-time at a bank.

"It's been on the cards for a while," Ben Brown said.

"I've had to give up the sport because there's a huge lack of funding. I'm not able to train six hours a day, six days a week, without any income."

Ben Brown says it is impossible for him to train while also working full-time.

"It's just not feasible. When you've been at work all day, by the time you get to the gym it's not really worth it. Your mind's not on it and you're tired", he explained.

Matthew Crawcour, a spokesman for UK Sport, said Ben Brown did not qualify for its funding because they work with athletes who have world class ranking, which was not the case with Brown.
