Chinese climbers take Olympic torch up Mt Everest
The Olympic flame has been carried to the summit of Mt Everest, which is the world's highest mountain, and it was Chinese and Tibetan mountain climbers that got it there.
Chinese television covered the news and showed the team dressed in padded anoraks bearing the Beijing Olympic logo, and with high-altitude torches as they unfurled their flags and cheered.
The party of climbers, who were Tibetans and Han Chinese, began their final climb several hours before dawn from their base camp at 8,300m up the mountain.
Luckily they had perfect conditions but this was not the case on the weekend when heavy snowfall had stopped a previous attempt.
The flags the team held up were Chinese and Olympic flags, and they jubilantly shouted out: "Beijing welcomes you!" and "One World, One Dream", which is the official slogan of the Beijing Olympics.
