Beijing smog worries Olympic Committee officials
Smog and poor air conditions in the Chinese capital of Beijing are a major concern for International Olympic Committee (IOC) officials.
The Olympic Games are set to be held in Beijing in 2008 and the IOC wants to make sure all is in order for the prestigious event.
An inspection team said that Beijing was making "considerable progress" but it wanted more details on plans to improve air quality there.
Hein Verbruggen of the IOC said: "This is of the utmost importance to the athletes, who are the most important part of the Games," and he added that more work would be necessary to ease traffic flow in the congested city streets.
The inspection team officials told reporters that the Beijing Organising Committee for the Olympic Games must make the most of the 26 test events planned for the capital city.
"Test events this summer are a crucial opportunity the organisers must use to test how operations, planned for so long, will actually work in practice," the IOC team explained.
