Sir Steve Redgrave disagrees with Dwain Chambers' claims
Olympic gold winner Sir Steve Redgrave has angrily rejected claims by former sprinter Dwain Chambers that athletes who use drugs have a better chance of winning and will continue to abuse the substances.
Dwain Chambers had reportedly said that scientists would always be one step ahead of the doping testers and that athletes would take advantage of this to help them win.
Sir Steve Redgrave, who holds a record five Olympic rowing gold medals, was annoyed by Dwain Chambers' outspoken views and he said: "What he had to say is ridiculous. I competed for 25 years and never took an illegal drug in my life."
Dwain Chambers was sentenced to and served a two-year ban for taking the banned drug THG in 2003.
After making a brief return to sprinting Dwain Chambers decided to start a new career with American football and is now training with the Hamburg Sea Devils in NFL Europe.
"I never considered taking drugs. For me it was about trying to become the best athlete I possibly could and by doing that I managed to win some Olympic medals." Sir Steve Redgrave also said.
