Liverpool and Paula Radcliffe hope for Laureus sports awards
Champions League winners Liverpool are hoping for the World Team of the Year award at the prestigious Laureus sports awards, which will be announced in Barcelona on 22 May and athlete Paula Radcliffe is looking to copy Dame Kelly Holmes in taking the Sportswoman of the Year award.
Last year's winner Roger Federer is once again nominated in the men's category along with Ronaldinho, Tiger Woods and cyclist Lance Armstrong, as well as the motorsport stars Fernando Alonso and Valentino Rossi who are also on the list.
Paula Radcliffe is up against tough competition in the women's category, with tennis star Kim Clijsters and Swedish golfer Annika Sorenstam among the other nominations.
And Liverpool will be up going against this year's champions League favourites Barcelona in their home city, the powerful New Zealand All Blacks rugby team and the all-conquering Renault Formula One champions.
More than 700 sports writers and editors from around the world chose the nominees and the 42 members of the Laureus World Sports Academy will choose the winners.
