Laureus awards for Lewis Hamilton, Paula Radcliffe & Roger Federer
British Formula One racing driver Lewis Hamilton has been given the Laureus World Breakthrough of the Year award after his incredible success in his debut season.
The Laureus awards gala ceremony was attended by Russian President Vladimir Putin and took place at the Mariinsky Theatre in St Petersburg.
Compatriot to Lewis Hamilton, sportswoman Paula Radcliffe, claimed the World Comeback of the Year award following her New York marathon success, and tennis superstars Roger Federer and Justine Henin received the Sportsman and Sportswoman of the Year.
Swiss star, Roger Federer won Laureus Sportsman of the Year for the fourth time consecutively and set a record in doing so. Roger Federer had claimed three Grand Slam titles in 2007 and Justine Henin was triumphant with two.
Amongst other award winners were the South African rugby union team who were named Team of the Year following their 2007 World Cup victory.
