Former boxer Mike Tyson says he can help Paul Gascoigne
Former heavyweight boxer Mike Tyson says he can help troubled ex-footballer Paul Gascoigne by offering personal counselling and support.
Paul Gascoigne, who is nicknamed Gazza and who had played for Newcastle United, recently suffered a nervous breakdown and was committed to a psychiatric hospital for a fortnight.
But MikeTyson, who will be touring the UK, and has had a lot of trouble in his own career, believes he can help 40-year-old Paul Gascoigne.
Mike Tyson, 41, is appearing as a guest speaker in the North of England in May, including a date in Gateshead.
Mike Tyson said: "I know all about Gazza and I feel I can help him. A lot of top sportsmen have suffered in their private lives, including me, and that is why I want to help.
"I still see him as a superstar and would like to meet him if he feels up for it."
Mike Tyson, who had been convicted of rape in 1992 and imprisoned for a day in November last year for driving under the influence of drugs, had also met with footballer Wayne Rooney and he said: "Back in 2005, Wayne Rooney was on a downer and I met him and lifted his spirits. I am sure I can do the same for Paul Gascoigne."
