Former Scottish racing driver David Leslie killed in jet crash
Former Scottish racing driver David Leslie was one of five people killed after a private jet crashed into a housing estate at Farnborough, Kent.
David Leslie, Apex Motorsport racing car company owner Richard Lloyd and pilot Mike Roberts were among those who died in the tragic incident in which a house was also destroyed.
Teams of investigators are trying to find out what went wrong and to recover the bodies from the wreckage of the plane that was on a business flight from Biggin Hill airfield to France before it went down.
One of the two pilots of the Cessna Citation 1 jet is reported to have told air traffic control of engine trouble and to have asked for permission to land again.
David Leslie, 54, made his name by winning nine races in a 13-year touring car career in the 1990s and tributes are now rolling in from the world of motorsport, which has been shocked by what has happened.
David Leslie is believed to have been working on setting up the new Jaguar racing team along with 63-year-old fellow victim of the crash Richard Lloyd.
The other two people who lost their lives but have yet to be named are thought to be a 25-year-old man and a 57-year-old male co-pilot.
