England cricket coach Duncan Fletcher awarded
England cricket coach Duncan Fletcher has received a prestigious award
at the annual Sports Coach UK awards. Duncan Fletcher won the male
coach of the year award for helping England to their first Ashes
success for 18 years.
England's bowling coach Troy Cooley and Wales rugby coach Mike Ruddock
were handed the Mussabini Medal, given to successful coaches on the
world stage.
Colette Thompson, who helped England's under-21 netball team to world youth silver, was female coach of the year.
Sir Bobby Robson, the former England football manager, was presented
with the lifetime achievement award at the gala ceremony in London.
Troy Cooley was credited for bringing out the best in England's bowling
attack of Andrew Flintoff, Matthew Hoggard, Steve Harmison and Simon
Jones.
Meanwhile, Mike Ruddock led Wales to their first Grand Slam triumph in
27 years and guided the national side to their first win over Australia
in 18 years.
The British Eventing Foundation's national coach Yogi Breisner,
dressage coach Tracie Robinson and show jumping coach Kenneth Clawson
were also all Mussabini medal winners.
Christine Still, director of Scottish national gymnastic squads, and
Ron Needs, rowing coach for the women's eights, were also recipients of
the Mussabini medal.
