Wheelchair racer David Weir suffers virus in Paralympics
Wheelchair racer David Weir has been suffering from a virus and he lost his chance of winning five gold medals at the Paralympics when China's Zhang Lixin beat him into coming runner up in their 400m final.
Weir had broken his old world record but his opponent went even better again by almost a second, claiming victory in 45.07 seconds.
And 29-year-old Weir only managed bronze in the T54 5000m, which meant that the UK were still in need of their first gold on the track.
The virus Weir has been suffering with has spoiled his performance it seems and following his second place in the 400m on Wednesday, Thailand's Prawat Wahoram beat him for the gold.
A so far disappointed Weir still has still got a chance of claiming his first Paralympic gold in the 800m, 1500m and marathon.
Weir, who in the past was silver and bronze medallist in Athens in 2004, said after the 5000m final that his performance was not his best because the virus was still affecting him.
