South African paralympic athlete Oscar Pistorius sets new record
South African sprinter and paralympic athlete Oscar Pistorius, who is known as "The Fastest Thing On No Legs," has set a new record by becoming the first double amputee to run below 11 seconds for the 100m, and he did this at the SA Disabled Championships in Johannesburg.
Oscar Pistorius, 20, who is taking part in next month's Paralympic World Cup in Manchester, clocked 10.91 to achieve this record-breaking feat, and beating American opponent Marlon Shirley's time of 11.08 seconds set in France in 2002.
Oscar Pistorius also bettered his own world 200m and 400m records at the event.
In the 200m race, Oscar Pistorius ran 21.6 seconds and broke the record of 21.66 he had previously set at last year's IPC World Championships in Assen, Holland.
Oscar Pistorius then won the 400m in 49.16 seconds and beat his last world best of 49.42 seconds. Oscar Pistorius capped his achievements by taking a fourth gold medal as part of the 4x100m relay team.
