South African disabled sprinter Oscar Pistorius wins 100m
South African disabled runner Oscar Pistorius has won the first of three races he is going for gold in.
The double amputee, who is nicknamed Blade Runner because of his artificial legs, hopes to claim three Paralympic gold medals.
So far he has beaten defending 100m American champion Marlon Shirley finishing the race in 11.18 seconds despite the wet weather conditions.
Pistorius has the 200m and 400m yet to race in and he is feeling confident of success, claiming that they are the races he is best at running in.
Pistorius fought a recent legal battle to be allowed to compete at last month's Olympic Games but although he was permitted to enter he didn't qualify so now he is focusing ahead to the London 2012 Games.
Oscar Pistorius next races in the 200m on Saturday, and then the 400m final on the Tuesday afterwards.
