Paralympic athlete Oscar Pistorius not likely for Olympics

pistorius South African paralympic sprinter Oscar Pistorius looks very unlikely as a contestant at next year's Olympic Games in Beijing.

Oscar Pistorius who has won in the 400m has had to have scientific analysis of his artificial limbs to determine if they give him an unfair advantage against able-bodied opponents. Unfortunately, Professor Peter Bruggemann, who reviewed the results, explained to Die Welt newspaper that Oscar Pistorius has a "considerable advantage".

It is now up to the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) who will announce its decision on Saturday.

The association had received Professor Bruggemann's report back in December after the tests were completed at the German Sport University in Cologne.

The professor also said: "He has a considerable advantage compared with athletes without prosthetic limbs who have undergone the same tests."

Oscar Pistorius had both of his legs amputated below the knee as a child and now runs on carbon fibre blades.

Oscar Pistorius won a gold and bronze medal at the 2004 Athens Paralympics but now his dream of being in the Olympics depends on the IAAF's decision.
