Great Britain names sledge hockey squad for Winter Paralympics
Great Britain have named a 13-strong sledge hockey squad for the Winter
Paralympic Games to be held in Turin and which begin on 10 March.
The British side made sure of their place by gaining a victory in the
final qualifying tournament in Italy in November but they had an
anxious wait before the British Paralympic Association confirmed their
participation.
The British team travel to Stockholm this weekend for a three-game series against Sweden, ranked third in the world.
In Turin, Great Britain, who are ranked fifth in the world, will be
facing the top seeds Norway, Canada, who are ranked fourth, and the
hosts.
The Great Britain squad includes Paralympic sailor Stephen Thomas and
talented teenager Nathan Stephens, who will be competing at the
Commonwealth Games immediately after the close of the Winter
Paralympics.
Nathan Stephens, 19, from Wales, has been selected to represent his
country in the discus event for elite athletes with a disability in
Australia.
